OH MY GOD!

As Good As It Gets, February 14, 2006
By John May (Montgomery, Il. USA) - See all my reviews
If there were 10-stars available, thats how many I'd give this album. Or maybe...11. Yea thats it!
The fact that is was recorded LIVE with as many classic and pro musicians (Vinnie Colaiuta, Larry Carlton to name a few) just makes it all the better.
As a keyboard player, I'm envious of the absolute euphoria they must have had while performing this album (except for the once "off-beat" tamboureen in the 1st track) oops, ...but who cares.
This album was way ahead of it's time, and should have been nominated for a grammy. Then again it't almost too good for that, although I'm sure Bill Meyers would contest that.
If you like instrumental music taking you through a journey based on a solid rhymic foundation (curtesy Vinnie Colaiuta with POP!), VERY clean guitar (Larry Carlton) & tastefully applied and refreshingly programmed synthesizers all woven through a sometimes flirting classical/fusion theme complete with real-live tastefully placed voilins, flutes, brass and dynamic percussion this album should not be missed.
It simply has it all; airy...yet still has PUNCH & even sometimes growl.
What a creative landscape!
I have the original LP in "good" condition considering it is now 20-years old & I played it a LOT in the '80's.
As for the CD, I wish it were in print, since the LP was so beautifully produced.
If you can find it, GRAB IT & don't let go!

It's O.k., But not as good as "Images", March 11, 2002
By Warren Oates (New York City) - See all my reviews
This Cd is o.k., but just is not as good as "Images".
"Images" is the definitive Bill Meyers recording. I purchased it in 1985 on vinyl. I am not sure if it was ever released on CD.
Images is an AMAZING "live to 2 track recording" featuring the cream of the crop Los Angeles session players..All playing funk film scoring type grooves that segue from song to song...If you are excited by musicians playing this style - GET THE "IMAGES" RECORDING ! it may be available at www.audiophileimports.com
It's a very important record !
Bill Meyers is not a household name, but those (like myself) who read liner notes and study and/or follow composers/arrangers that help shape a band are the unsung heros of music. Meyers is best known for his killer arrangements for Earth, Wind and Fire in their later years as a group.
This CD, I gladly spent the money for. If you liked EW&F's music or are familiar with Jazz/R&B groups like Caldera and Seawind that fuse African, Carribean rhythms, R&B, Jazz and World Beat seamlessly, then this CD you will appreciate. Nine tracks made up of some vocals and some instrumentals (2 featuring the EW&F rhythm section itself), and led by Meyer's impressive Synth playing, this is a real sleeper CD. It has a running theme of shifting poly-rhythms that often segue into hard nasty funk with some wellpllaced vocal shadings. Meyers has obviously studied classical composition and fused it with seductive tropical beats and percussion. It's a well engineered CD and has a very nice varity of songs. Something for any sophisticated listener.
